Artist Vicki Van Vynckt

Vicki Van Vynckt was born in northwest Indiana. After earning a degree in fine art from the University of Southern Indiana, she moved to Minnesota and began training in the method of Plein-air painting. This method uses some of the outdoor techniques that the Impressionist painters began using more than a century ago to capture the freshness of natural light in their paintings. Vicki has always been inspired by the beauty of nature, and painting outdoors is the most natural way to reflect that beauty.

Through the use of fresh, vivid color in a harmonious blend of imagery, Vicki’s paintings express the Ultimate Life Force present and at work in nature. She hopes that those who view her paintings will feel uplifted in some way, perhaps by the colors or the subject matter. Being a poet and coming from a family of artists, she sees art as a doorway to the "Higher Self," and therefore an important aspect of her life.

Vicki has attended many painting workshops and has taken drawing classes at the Atelier, an art school in Minneapolis that teaches painting and drawing in the style of the 19th century French masters. Her paintings have been featured in over 20 solo exhibitions and in over 40 group exhibitions, and her work is in many private collections.

Vicki and her husband now live near Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she draws inspiration from the high-desert, mountain environment. She is especially intrigued by the Southwestern sky, with its dramatic cloudscapes and brilliant sunsets.

Vicki also paints from photos, and welcomes commissions.
